Orangeville BJJ teaches kids martial arts through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, in three age groups: toddlers 3 to 5, kids 5 to 8 and youth 8 to 12. Classes mix fundamentals, drills and games, with supervised sparring as kids are ready. Kids earn stripes and belts as they improve, and build confidence, focus and fitness along the way.
A 30-minute class on Thursdays, 5:00 to 5:30 pm, built around movement, balance and listening. $75 a month, $430 for 6 months or $810 for the year, plus HST.
45-minute gi classes on weekends: Saturday at 10:00 and 11:00 am, and Sunday at 11:00 am. Each child joins one class group (A, B or C) so coaches can keep track of their progress. $100 a month on a 12-month plan, $1,050 for the year paid up front or $550 for 6 months, plus HST.
One-hour gi classes on weekday evenings: Monday and Wednesday at 5:00 and 6:00 pm, and Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 pm. Each child joins one class group (A, B or C). $125 a month on a 12-month plan, $1,350 for the year paid up front or $700 for 6 months, plus HST.
Sundays, 10 to 11 am, coached by Shaun Rangoo. This class is invite-only, for youth who want to focus on competing. Students come from our regular kids classes, and each one must be approved by the head instructor of their class.
Black belts Shawn Cox and Jake Smith (2nd degree black belt in BJJ and Judo, NCCP Level 3 coach) lead our kids and youth programs, with brown belt Bryan Cronk, purple belts Caleb Chopin and Jake Kearns, and Davina Rangoo, who works with our youngest students.
Your child's safety comes first. Every coach has a police vulnerable sector check, is trained to coach, and teaches using the NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) framework in all of our kids classes.
Most kids classes are full or nearly full right now. Email orangevillebjj@gmail.com with your child's name and age, and we'll tell you which class has room or add them to the waitlist. The first class is free: wear athletic clothes (no shorts) and arrive 15 minutes early.
Please reach us at orangevillebjj@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes. Every coach has a police vulnerable sector check and is trained to coach using the NCCP framework. Kids learn control and technique first, and sparring is always supervised and only once they're ready.
From age 3. Toddlers (3 to 5) have a 30-minute class on Thursdays, kids 5 to 8 train on weekends, and youth 8 to 12 train on weekday evenings. Teens 13 and up join our teens and adult classes.
Our kids programs are led by black belts Shawn Cox and Jake Smith (2nd degree black belt in BJJ and Judo, NCCP Level 3 coach), with brown belts Bryan Cronk and Davina Rangoo and purple belts Caleb Chopin and Jake Kearns.
The first class is free and no experience is needed. Arrive about 15 minutes early in comfortable athletic clothes. A coach will meet your child, then they join kids their own age for a warm-up, fun games and a few basic moves, at their own pace.
A gi, which you can buy at the academy. Additional family members get 15% off.
Yes. Kids earn stripes and new belts as they learn, so they can see their own progress. Every class they practise staying calm under pressure, working with a partner and trying again after a mistake. Those habits carry over to school and home.
We teach self-defence, not fighting. Kids learn to stay calm, use their words, escape holds and get back to their feet safely. Knowing they can keep themselves safe helps them walk away and tell an adult, instead of feeling helpless or striking back.
Toddlers 3 to 5, kids 5 to 8 and 8 to 12, grouped by age and level.
Gi classes in the mornings, evenings and on weekends, plus a Sunday open mat. Beginners welcome.
Grappling in shorts and a rash guard, taught by our black belts. Included with adult BJJ.
