Dyman Judo, 13 and up
Throws, takedowns, breakfalls and groundwork on Friday nights with 6th degree black belt Fred Dyke. Beginners welcome.
Why Judo
Judo was founded by Jigoro Kano in the late 1800s as a modern form of jujutsu. It is built on throws, holds and submissions.
Lots of movement and quick reflexes build flexibility, strength and endurance, along with balance and body control.
Judo takes concentration and strategy, and the sense of progress as you learn new techniques builds real self-confidence.
Head Judo coach
Fred is Orangeville Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's head Judo coach and a 6th degree black belt (Rokudan). He began training Judo in 1968 and has trained consistently ever since. He has held several positions, including Vice President of Newfoundland and Labrador Judo and National Councillor for the Canadian Kodokan Black Belt Association. In competition, he is a multiple-time Ontario Provincial Champion and a veteran of the Olympic Wrestling Trials.
Where Sensei Fred truly shines is as a coach. His knowledge, wit and sense of humour make him a gifted communicator who inspires young athletes. He is also a certified NCCP Level 2 coach.

“I've been training here for about a year doing judo and some BJJ classes. The community is great, the sensei and coaches are great, and I've upped my game a lot here. I highly recommend it for someone training for self defense or competitive success!”
Questions
Judo focuses on throws and takedowns from standing. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu focuses on control and submissions on the ground. Training both makes a complete grappler.
